Wide Woven Fabrics


PRF offers a wide range of woven reinforcements in various constructions, each of which, due to its own special characteristics, makes it particularly suitable for a given application.

From our 30 years’ experience developing and supplying woven fabrics, we understand how the type of weave pattern will affect the drape of the fabric, the ease and speed of impregnation and the mechanical properties of the final laminate. For this reason, PRF’s woven reinforcement fabrics are available in a large range of weave patterns, in balanced constructions with similar strength in the warp and weft, and bias fabrics with increased strength in the dominant fibre direction, the extreme being uni-directional fabrics.

Standard Wide Woven materials

PRF’s standard woven reinforcements are available in a large range of weights and fibre types:

  • Carbon fibre – Standard, intermediate and high modulus carbon, 60 – 660 g/m²
  • Aramid – HM aramid fabrics – Kevlar® and Twaron®, 20 – 480 g/m²
  • Glass fibre – E-glass fabrics and E-glass woven rovings, 80 – 800 g/m²
  • Hybrids (mixed fibres)- Hybrid Fabrics, 120 – 660 g/m²
  • Polyester (Diolen®) fibres – Diolen® polyester fabrics, 150 – 600 g/m²
  • HPPE (Dyneema®) fibres – Dyneema® HPPE fabrics and Dyneema® hybrids, 150 – 400 g/m²

Typically, fabrics woven using standard fibres (listed above) can be produced in widths ranging from 300mm to 1,500mm. Stock widths for most products are 1,000mm and 1,250mm.

We can weave carbon to a variety of grades, including double-side inspected premium and aesthetic grades.

Advanced Synchron Weave (ASW)

ASW is a non-crimp fabric woven in 3 tiers, with the main reinforcement fibres lying straight with zero crimp. The reinforcement fibres are held in place by a very light binder thread woven around them; the reinforcement fibres are not pierced or damaged by the binder thread as in traditional non-crimp fabrics. ASW provides a number of advantages compared to conventional woven fabrics, including higher tensile and compressive strengths, improved stiffness and bending strength, and a higher fibre volume, and are available from PRF with carbon and glass fibres as the main reinforcement.

Speciality Fabrics and Fabric Development

We also supply speciality materials and a bespoke fabric development service. Speciality materials can be used to provide specialist qualities to the woven fabric that are advantageous in the end application. Speciality materials include stainless steel fibre, quartz, basalt, titanium and others.

Through our bespoke fabric development service, customers can achieve desired results in the end application, particularly for more specialist applications, at the most cost-effective price suitable for the manufacturing processes used. We can develop new woven designs to suit specific requirements, including new hybrids, new weave patterns or the inclusion of speciality materials. We can start this bespoke service with an order of just 7m to sample and test the fabric.
