Narrow Width Woven Tapes and Braids
Often used together, particularly in tubular form, the combination of braids and wovens can provide fibre placement which has the weight and orientation required by the designer. Our woven tapes and braids come in a range of fibre types, ranging from carbon, aramid, glass, polyester and hybrids. Fibre types will be selected to best suit the application.

Narrow Width Woven Tapes
Our range of narrow woven tapes for composite reinforcement complement our range of broad loom products and are available in widths from 10mm – 350mm wide, from carbon, aramid (Kevlar®), glass and polyester fibres. They are typically used as local reinforcement and are also highly suitable for the manufacture of high aspect ratio products such as skis. Uni-directional tubular reinforcements can also be woven with elasticated weft fibres, providing an interesting solution to the problem of reinforcing spars, cranked tubes and ducting. Our flat woven tapes are also available with powder coating for RTM applications.

Curved Fabrics and Spiral Woven Tapes
We also supply state-of-the-art spiral woven tapes and curved fabrics. These unique products enable you to lay a unidirectional reinforcement around circular shapes, mould or penetration, for example reinforcement around a hatch or around a wheel. With applications as far-reaching as external fixators for limbs to aerospace components, these tapes and fabrics are as useful as they are innovative. Woven in a wide range of widths and diameters, with ‘spiral woven’ referring to smaller diameters and ‘curved’ referring to higher diameters, the current product capabilities are as follows:

- Diameter: 70mm to 6000mm
It is now possible to realise 3D woven profile structures for preforms. We can supply these bespoke materials in carbon, glass, aramid and hybrid fabrics. The fibres are woven in a 0/90° orientation and also in 3D, right-angled on warp and weft; providing x, y & z axis reinforcement in the component. The fibres are continuous and provide a higher strength in composite parts as the forces are distributed in several directions. These 3D profiles also provide better fibre placement and packing in corners, reducing the use of noodles, and have woven edges to eliminate cutting and fraying.
A range of profile and multi-chamber 3D structures are possible up to a width of approx. 400mm.
Flat and Tubular Braids
Our braided reinforcements have unique properties which make them suitable for complete part manufacture or local reinforcement in applications where fibres need to be oriented at angles rather than at 0°/90°, as found in woven fabrics. Braids are especially functional in applications where high shear loads can be expected; for instance, within the web of a beam and for joining components.
Braids have exceptional drapeability, due to the ability of the braided fibres to change angles. As such, they are highly suited to covering and laminating preforms, as they can be accurately draped over complex contours whilst retaining their reinforcement capabilities. These products will even drape accurately around a bend.
We also offer elasticated braids, which can be manufactured to ensure that the fibre stabilises at 45° angles. This allows consistent fibre placement over long distance to be achieved in a quick and easy process.
