Wide Woven Composite Reinforcements

PRF offers a wide range of woven reinforcements in various constructions, each of which, due to its own special characteristics, makes it particularly suitable for a given application.

The type of weave pattern will affect the drape of the fabric, the ease and speed of impregnation and the mechanical properties of the final laminate. For this reason PRF’s woven reinforcement fabrics are available in a large range of weave patterns, in balanced constructions with similar strength in the warp and weft, and bias fabrics which increase strength in the dominant fibre direction, the extreme being uni-directional fabrics. PRF’s standard woven reinforcements are available in a large range of weights and fibre types.

Carbon fibre 60 – 660 g/m²
Aramid (Kevlar®) 20 – 480 g/m²
Glass fibre 80 – 800 g/m²
Hybrids (mixed fibres) 120 – 660 g/m²
Polyester (Diolen®) fibres 150 – 600 g/m²
HPPE (Dyneema®) fibres 150 – 400 g/m²

PRF also supply speciality materials such as stainless steel fibre, titanium and others. Typically, fabrics woven using standard fibres (listed above) can be produced in weights from 60 g/m² – 800 g/m with fabric width capability from 300mm to 3,000mm. Stock widths for most products are 1,000mm and 1,250mm.

Advanced Synchron Weave

Advanced Synchron Weave is type of fabric woven in 3 tiers with the main reinforcement fibres laying straight with zero crimp. The reinforcement fibres are held in place by a very light binder thread woven around them. The reinforcement fibres are not pierced or damaged by the binder thread as in traditional non-crimp fabrics.

Advantages of Advanced Synchron Weave compared to conventional woven fabric include:

  • Higher tensile strength

  • Higher compressive strength

  • Higher fibre volume

  • Higher bending strength

  • Higher stiffness
