PRF has been supplying materials to the renewable energy sector, in particular wind turbine materials, for over 20 years. In an industry that is at the forefront of innovation, we work in partnership with our clients to constantly refine our materials and processes in order to reduce manufacturing times and to maximise the operating efficiency and longevity of composite components.
Wind energy applications often require specialist considerations. We have extensive experience in developing bespoke woven and non-woven fabrics and will work together with clients in order to design the ideal solution to suit the requirements. Such bespoke materials can include new hybrid wovens, new weave patterns or new wovens using speciality fibres and materials; these materials can also fulfil specialist requirements such as lightning strike protection. We can start this bespoke service with an order of just 7m for sampling and testing.
Within our standard ranges of reinforcements we also stock a range of multiaxial fabrics, narrow width woven tapes, and flat and tubular braids for a variety of material weight options. Our multiaxial fabrics come in a range of materials, such as carbon, e-glass and aramid, and our woven tapes and braids are available in virtually any fibre type. Powder-coating, laminating and slitting services are also available for our tapes and braids.
Our class-leading range of epoxy resin systems is used extensively throughout the wind energy industry. Our comprehensive range contains a variety of systems, varying from low viscosity systems for room temperature laminating, RTM and resin infusion to systems that operate in high temperatures, specialist gelcoat formulations and adhesives.
To complement our range of advanced composite products, PRF developed Qiicote mould release technologies for thermoset and thermoplastic composites. The Qiicote range of products offers hard-wearing release films giving multiple releases with no contaminating transfer; the range includes cleaners, sealers and semi-permanent release agents. The benefits of using these products include variable slip with a high gloss finish, a number of ways to apply, no contaminating transfer from mould surface, low cost per part released and a maximum release performance. We have also developed an internal mould release agent, water-based semi-permanent release agents, and Silicone Shield, which is a modified PVA which preserves silicone bags and seals up to 100°C.
Our renewable energy clients also benefit greatly from our composite kit cutting service; the ideal solution to provide consistently cut, high quality kits with reduced labour time and cost. We supply our kits bagged, labelled and ready for immediate use.
